Calvert-St. Mary's Metropolitan Planning Organization

Overview

Based on the 2010 Census, the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration determined that the Lexington Park/California/Lusby area of Southern Maryland met the population criteria for a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The MPO is a locally governed entity with a board consisting of a county commissioner each from St. Mary’s and Calvert counties and a member from the Maryland Department of Transportation. The MPO accepts federal and state funding to do transportation related planning activities in a coordinated fashion within the MPO area.

In December 2013, Calvert County, St. Mary’s County and the State of Maryland signed a memorandum of understanding creating the MPO and have begun actively planning transportation projects within the urbanized area of the MPO.

The Calvert-St. Mary's metropolitan Planning Organization now has a new website and can be visited.
