An Animal Control Officer is available after hours on an emergency on-call basis.
The Animal Control Unit is staffed by five full-time Animal Control officers, one Animal Control supervisor and one full-time office aide/dispatcher.
Animal Control officers are tasked with enforcing county regulations as they pertain to dogs and cats, as well as state laws regarding cruelty to animals. These officers conduct investigations to ensure pets are kept in a humane manner, receive proper food, water, and shelter, and are not allowed to run at large in the community.
The mission of the Calvert County Animal Control Unit is to fairly and humanely enforce the animal control laws, regulations, and ordinances as set forth by the state of Maryland and the Board of County Commissioners for Calvert County.
